 Itinerary
Day 1  Depart for Nebraska
Depart today and enjoy a welcome dinner and overnight in Omaha, Nebraska. (Dinner)
Day 2  Arrive in Kansas
Continue west into the “Sunflower State” of Kansas for a dinner and overnight stay. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 3  Prairie Museum of Art & History and Limon Heritage Museum
Begin the day at the Prairie Museum of Art & History and visit their 1930’s farmstead one-room school house as well as the largest barn Kansas. In Colorado, a stop is planned at the Limon Heritage Museum & Railroad Park. Once a Union Pacific and Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad station, it is now on the National Register of Historical Places and houses a Union Pacific caboose, model railroad layout of the 1940s Limon Yard and a 1914 dining car. Spend time here before arriving in Colorado Springs. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 4  Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad and Garden of the Gods
Begin the day with a ride on the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad. Scenic wonders await around every curve and this century-old steam locomotive is reminiscent of the gold mining days of the area. Next, it’s on to the stunning Garden of the Gods, a 1,300 acre park where flora and fauna reflect the rich diversity of the terrain, and red sandstone formations tell a unique geological story. Enjoy lunch before continuing to the U.S. Air Force Academy for a tour and a visit. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 5  Royal Gorge Scenic Railway
Welcome to Canon City, home of the Royal Gorge. Today, enjoy another journey by train aboard the Royal Gorge Route Railway. The 12-mile route follows the most famous portion of the old Denver and Rio Grande Western train line. You ride through the “Grand Canyon of the Arkansas” on an unforgettable journey over the famous Hanging Bridge, which clings precariously to the steep granite walls of the Royal Gorge. This evening, gather for dinner together. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 6  Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad
Today’s ride is along the original Rio Grande Line over the Rockies aboard the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This is America's most spectacular narrow gauge steam railroad, covering over 50 miles of wild and rugged territory between Antonito and Cumbres Pass. Enjoy lunch at the halfway stop, Osier, as you imagine the gold and silver miners and loggers who traveled the same route long ago. (Breakfast and lunch)
Day 7  Durango & Silverton Train
Its “full steam ahead” again today as aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Voted one of the “Top Ten Most Exciting Train Journeys in the World” by the Society of American Travel Writers, this route winds through the spectacular and breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two-million acre San Juan National Forest. The locomotives used today remain 100% coalfired, steam-operated and are maintained in their original condition. This evening, gather again for dinner and reflect on the day's adventure. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 8  The Rocky Mountains
Today, witness some of Colorado’s most breathtaking scenery as you travel through San Juan National Forrest, the spectacular Rocky Mountains and scenic Pike National Forest en route to Fort Morgan, your home for the night. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 9  The Great Platte
After a visit to the Great Platte River Road Memorial, a farewell dinner and overnight in Nebraska await. (Breakfast and dinner)
Day 10  Arrive Home
Arrive home today with memories of Colorado’s Mountains and Rails Western adventure. (Breakfast)
