Day 2 Dublin, Ireland
Upon arrival in Dublin, you’ll be met by a Mayflower Cruises & Tours representative and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to begin getting acquainted with the area and hospitality of the Irish.
Day 3 Dublin, Ireland
This morning begins with an orientation tour of this capital city. During the panoramic tour your local guide will explain the history and architecture as you drive through the city. See the River Liffey, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, St. Stephen’s Green and travel along O’Connell Street with its monument to Daniel O’Connell and other notable figures from Ireland’s turbulent history. Pass the General Post Office, site of rebel headquarters in the 1916 Easter Rising. During the walking tour, stroll through Georgian Dublin and see the National Museum, the National Gallery and the Parliament building before visiting Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the famous hand-illuminated gospel manuscript. Before returning to the hotel, enjoy a special treat with a visit to the Guinness Storehouse for an included tour and sampling of this traditional Irish stout beer. Day 4 Dublin, Ireland
Today is all about cultural immersion as you become Irish for a day during this unique experience! Journey via coach to Causey Farm where the Murtagh family provides a warm welcome and shows what life is like on a working farm. Learn how to make traditional brown bread; enjoy a lesson in hurling – a game of ancient Gaelic and Irish origin. Spend time with the family dining over a traditional meal. And don’t forget about music! Join in an Irish folk dance and learn to play the bodhran – a goatskin circular drum. After a day in the country, return to Dublin for an evening at leisure. Meals: B, L
Day 5 Dublin to Killarney
After breakfast, it’s time to depart Dublin via coach for the quaint town of Killarney. While traveling through the scenic Irish countryside, stop in the village of Blarney where you get caught up in the aura of magic and mystique with an included visit to Blarney Castle. Wishing Steps, Witch’s Kitchen, Druid’s Cave and other delights all tell a story of centuries past. The ‘Stone of Eloquence’, considered to be Ireland’s greatest treasure, bestows the ‘gift of gab’ to all who kiss it. Climb to the top of the castle, kiss the Blarney Stone and see if the legend holds true!
Continue to Killarney, ‘The Jewel of Ireland’, with a background of sparkling lakes, deep forests and jagged misty mountains. Upon arrival, a brief panoramic orientation tour introduces you to this lively little town which is sure to delight with its pubs, craft galleries and shops. Dinner is included at the hotel. Day 6 Killarney / Ring of Kerry
Fall in love with the charm of Killarney during a morning excursion to Muckross House and Gardens and Killarney National Park. During the included Jaunting Cart ride, your Jarvey (driver) will keep you entertained with tall tales about the history, folklore and beauty of the area. While touring the 19th-century manor house, experience life as it was in earlier times. The informal gardens are composed not only of flowers, but also a water garden and an outstanding rock garden. This afternoon is spent on an exciting and breathtakingly beautiful excursion along a portion of the Ring of Kerry – the most famous and panoramic route in Ireland. With its diverse scenery of mountains, lakes and awe-inspiring views you’ll see why words just can’t describe its beauty. After a full day of scenery and adventure, the evening is at leisure upon your return to Killarney. Meal: B
Day 7 Dingle Peninsula
The beauty of the area continues to amaze on the excursion of the Dingle Peninsula. Thrusting out into the Atlantic, it is the westernmost point in all of Europe. Majestic hills of green and purple soar
over unspoiled valleys; glittering mountain streams tumble down to the lakes and golden beaches stretch for miles on end. The journey along the Slea Head coastal route provides spectacular views around every curve. It’s easy to see why movies like Ryan’s Daughter and Far and Away were filmed in this sweeping panorama. There will be free time in the town of Dingle for lunch on your own before returning to Killarney for the evening. Meal: B
Day 8 Killarney to Dublin
Leaving the beauty of Killarney, it’s time to return to Dublin, traveling through the midlands of Ireland. Upon arrival at the Dunboyne Castle Hotel, you’ll have the afternoon at leisure to enjoy the atmosphere and amenities of this elegant country manor house. Day 9 Dublin / USA
