Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Depart the USA

Depart the USA on your overnight flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Day 2: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Upon arrival in Rio, you’ll be met by a representative of Mayflower Cruises & Tours and transferred to your hotel. All flights should arrive by 3:00pm. The remainder of the day is at leisure until the included welcome dinner. Meal: D

Day 3: Rio de Janeiro

Exploration of Brazil begins with an excursion via cog-wheel train through the Tijuca Forest up Corcovado Mountain. The train ride provides a wonderful opportunity for a close-up look at the lush vegetation of the tropical forest and panoramic views of the city and its beaches. Upon arrival at the top of the mountain, see one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World: Christ the Redeemer Statue. Have your camera ready to capture the breathtaking panoramic view of Rio from this vantage point! After descending the mountain, the coach travels past some of Rio’s main sites including Sambódromo (parade area for Carnival), the famous arch monument - Arcos da Lapa, the Metropolitan Cathedral and Flamengo Park along Guanabara Bay before returning to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure. Day 4: Rio / Puerto Iguazú, Brazil and Argentina

Depart the hotel and transfer by coach to the Rio airport for a flight to Puerto Iguazú, Brazil. Upon arrival, the motorcoach takes you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Iguazú National Park, home of over 275 waterfalls, including the world-famous Iguazú Falls. Enjoy a tour by coach through the park followed by a guided walk along the catwalks. It’s an all-sensory experience as you feel the mist, hear the roar of the falls and admire the contrasts between the green forest, blue sky and foamy white water. Look for rainbows to form near the water as the glistening rays of the sun hit the misty vapors. Where the Iguazú River meets the subtropical forest, you’ll find the most impressive waterfall, Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat). Enjoy these awe-inspiring views before boarding the coach and continuing across the border into Argentina, ending at the hotel. Meal: B

Day 5: Iguazú Falls Argentina

Your first day in Argentina explores the Argentinean National Park with a local guide as you board a gas-propelled train for a ride to the upper falls to see this incredible site from the Argentinean side. Walk along the Iguazú River canyon via the upper and lower paths to appreciate the flora and fauna up-close. Giant trees, ferns, orchids, butterflies and over 400 bird species, including toucans, woodpeckers and hummingbirds, abound in the area. You may spot jaguar, tiger-cat, fox and monkeys in this National Park designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Return to the hotel for the remainder of the day at leisure until the included dinner this evening. Meals: B, D

Day 6: Puerto Iguazú – Buenos Aires

This morning, transfer to the airport for the flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival, enjoy an included lunch in the city center before exploring this capital city. On the guided panoramic tour, see Plaza de Mayo, the historical heart of the city, surrounded by the Presidential Palace, the first City Hall, and Metropolitan Cathedral - the site where Pope Francis celebrated mass as Cardinal of Buenos Aires. Continue along Avenida de Mayo, viewing its eclectic architecture. Drive along Avenida 9 de Julio, the widest avenue in the world, with eight lanes, adorned with gardens, fountains, sculptures and the city’s landmark Obelisk. Proceed to San Telmo, the best kept historical neighborhood and eldest district of the city. Continue to the district of La Boca and the famous street ‘Caminito’ with its multicolored houses and immigrant legacy reflected in the picturesque ‘cantinas’. In contrast, continue through Puerto Madero, the most modern neighborhood with a unique urban landscape, before arriving at the hotel with the remainder of the day left free of planned activities. Day 7: Buenos Aires

Exploration of the city continues with an excursion highlighting the northern areas. Journey to La Recoleta, one of the most expensive districts named after the Recollect monks of the Augustinian order. Visit the famous cemetery, once the monastery’s orchard, now home to ornate sculptures, mausoleums, and vaults. Among those resting here is Eva Duarte – better known as Evita. Continue to the Palais de Glace, a former ice rink and center of high society gatherings when the Tango had its humble beginnings. Drive through Palermo with its mix of artsy-bohemian and luxury residential areas. Driving through Palermo Chico, see homes of the rich and famous, embassies, the University, museums and gardens. After returning to the hotel for time to relax, the evening shifts to Argentina’s most passionate cultural expression: the Tango. Learn how to do the basic steps of this powerful dance during a lesson. The night concludes with an immersive dinner show where performers bring Argentine culture to life through music and dance – from traditional gaucho folk to the dramatic rhythms of Tango. Day 8: Buenos Aires – Santiago, Chile

Leaving Argentina, fly to Santiago for the remaining three nights. After arrival, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. During the included tour, experience the eclectic mix of a colonial past and ultra-modern high-rise buildings of this capital city. See La Moneda, the Government Palace and seat of the President. Stroll through the pedestrian zone to witness the city’s commercial center. Visit the main square, Plaza de Armas, and see the Metropolitan Cathedral and other historical and architecturally unique buildings. Arrive at the hotel for check-in and an evening at leisure. Day 9: Valparaiso

Today’s excursion into central Chile blends coastal culture, literary history and wine country charm. Journey to Valparaiso, the oldest and most important port city in Chile. The local guide explains the heritage of the city and importance of the seaport as you wander through the streets of the historic quarter – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. View the colorful Victorian-style architecture and street art which gives Valparaiso its unique atmosphere. From small pictures and buildings completely covered in murals to political images and striking faces, street art has become an integral part of the city’s character. Continue to the Natural Historic Monument of La Sebastiana - a former home of Pablo Neruda. A famous and eccentric poet, Neruda was one of Latin America’s most celebrated Nobel Prize-winning poets. Now a museum, the house showcases his many collections from nautical items to memorabilia of his travels. Stroll through the meticulously preserved rooms of the house, including the tower room from where he wrote, his library, and admire the spectacular views of Valparaiso’s hills and bay. Depart Valparaiso and travel to Viña Matetic in the San Antonio Valley. Tour the wine cellar and sample some of their vintages before returning to the hotel for an evening at leisure. Meal: B

Day 10: Santiago

The final day starts with a visit to Santa Lucia Hill – a remnant of a 15-million-year-old volcano and site of the city’s foundation in 1541. Crossing the Mapocho River, arrive in Bellavista, the city’s cultural and artistic neighborhood, lying at the foot of San Cristóbal Hill. Ascend the 2,890-foot-hill via the historic funicular, to be atop the highest in the city, in the middle of the Metropolitan Park. At the summit, see the 45-foot-tall statue of the Virgin Mary and enjoy some of the finest views of Santiago and the Andes Mountains. Continue with a drive through the upscale Providencia area with its modern high-rise buildings before ending at the hotel. This evening, join your traveling companions for a farewell dinner at a traditional local restaurant. Meals: B, D

Day 11: Santiago / USA

After experiencing the wonders of Brazil, Argentina and Chile, it’s time to say ‘adios’ to South America as you depart for the Santiago airport and your flight home. Meal: B
