| Remember
when you were a kid and the family would go on
a summer vacation by car? My family would always
go fishing up in Northern Minnesota. John's family
would leave right after baseball season for their
annual two week car trip. John developed his love
for travel from those trips.
Last week, John and I did a road trip from Chicago
to Florida making several stops along the way.
Most everything on a Mayflower Tour is pre-driven
as site inspections are very important. John and
I are always on the lookout for interesting and
new things for our travelers to do and see.
One of our first stops was Nashville, Indiana.
That's right - Indiana - not Tennessee. We used
to visit a covered bridge festival there many
years ago.
As we were going down the highway, I wondered
if it had changed. The fall color was still vibrant
in early November in southern Indiana. As we approached
(the other) Nashville I got excited seeing the
activity. I am talking about small town activity.
Nashville was all decorated for fall.
Lots of pumpkins, hay bales, beautiful chrysanthemums.
People walking - window shopping - and enjoying
the crisp weather. The local church was selling
hot dogs and homemade cookies out on the street.
John and I remembered a great, folksy restaurant
called the Nashville House and hoped it was still
around.
What I love about these quaint towns is great
things don't change. The Nashville House did not
disappoint me. Homemade coleslaw, chicken, mashed
potatoes with gravy and the best homemade fried
rolls with apple butter served on a checkered
tablecloth with an impeccable white linen napkin.
Truthfully, we did not eat the rest of the day.
It was the best lunch ever!
We made many other great stops along the way on
our road trip, but I wanted to share this visit
to Nashville as the highlight of our road trip.
We have been to a lot of great places and cities
and eaten incredible food all over the world,
yet that first day on the road was just great!
Oh the beauty of a road trip.
Travel gives you so much. It enriches your life
and leaves you with never-to-be-forgotten memories.
How lucky am I.
