December,
2011 |
| The
United States Tour Operators Association (USTOA) conference
was a huge success. Leading Tour Operators as well as
industry Associates met in Marco Island, Florida, this
past week. I wanted to point out some trends that came
to light during the meeting:
|
| 2011
|
| • |
Small
increase in travel industry sales |
| • |
Increased
hiring by the tour operators in anticipation of future
growth |
| 2012
|
| • |
Double-digit
growth fueled by increase in consumer confidence and our
upcoming presidential elections |
| • |
Continual
challenges with the airline industry, especially concerning
airfare costs to Europe |
| • |
Continued
battles with the Dept. of Transportation on consumer-friendly
reporting of airfares |
| • |
Hot
selling products continue to be River Cruises to exotic
destinations |
| • |
Increased
support to countries that have experienced challenges
- beginning with Egypt |
| • |
Main
distribution source continues to be the travel agent community,
yet internet is moving up |
| All
in all, everyone is optimistic, but some voice it as
"cautiously optimistic."
John and I would like to wish everyone a blessed holiday.
Following is a recipe for the best appetizer ever. Enjoy!!!
