– M is for Mary, M is for Mayflower, M is for Mimi...

Developing NEW tours at Mayflower is a very big deal as well as a big responsibility. With our high traveler repeat factor, we know that many of them are looking for NEW places and NEW things to do.
We say at Mayflower that there really is very little NEW under the sun...so we spend a lot of time figuring out different things to do in places they have been. They say..."I've been to California before....we say...have you been to the Garlic Festival in Gilroy?" We are always hard at work finding new things to do in places where people might have already been.
Just how do we find NEW things to do and see? Here are some TIPS on finding 'NEW' in the travel business:
•
Ask the travelers who are presently out on tour. On every tour evaluation, Mayflower asks the traveler "where would you like to go next?"
•
At every get together everyone wants to talk travel. Pay particular attention to these conversations...especially if there is wine involved.
•
Social Media gives all of us an indication of where people are traveling. Posting pictures of our memorable vacation is great fun and gives me an idea of where other travelers are going.
•
Be a watch-dog for new ideas! I subscribe to all kinds of trade publications like Select Traveler, Group Tour Magazine, Leisure Group Travel NTA's Courier, and more. I rip out all interesting articles and save them for discussion at our tour development meetings at Mayflower. I've got to be ahead of the curve.
•
Attend all destination trade shows. I recently returned from NTA (National Tour Association) in Atlanta where John and I went to the College Football Hall of Fame. We both thought this attraction was in South Bend, and wow were we surprised and impressed!

At Mayflower all tours are thoroughly researched. The routes are driven before we operate them. That and many other check points and protocols are adhered to. This is what separates us from others as all of these great ideas need to be looked over before our travelers experience them. Life enriching experiences are very important and part of our Mayflower mission.
Keeping our tours fresh is critical, and bringing NEW into our getaways creates excitement. If you have any new ideas, please pass them on. I can always use them!
