Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Delaware

Arrive in Wilmington, Delaware today and settle into your conveniently located hotel. Later, meet your Tour Manager and get to know your traveling companions 6:00 p.m. for a welcome dinner. Meal: D

Day 2: Hagley Museum and Mount Cuba Center

The day begins at The Hagley Museum, a U.S. National Historic Landmark District. Before Winterthur, Nemours, Longwood, and other, famous du Pont estates, there was Eleutherian Mills, the first du Pont family home in America. A guided tour highlights family artifacts and decorative arts which brings to life 150 years of family history with links to major events from the Louisiana Purchase to the Civil War. Also tour the E.I. du Pont Garden, named for the founder of the DuPont company. This restored French-style garden reflects the original plans drawn by E. I. du Pont in 1804. The Mount Cuba Center is a renowned botanic garden committed to the conservation of native plants and their habitats. The focus here is on research, conservation and history. Meals: B, L

Day 3: First State Heritage Park and Dover Motor Speedway

This morning, travel to Dover and come to the First State Heritage Park. Learn Delaware’s history at the John Bell House, see the Old State House and walk The Green. Visit the Johnson Victrola Museum and learn about the origin of recorded music. At the Dover Motor Speedway, learn the ins and outs of NASCAR racing and learn why this track is referred to as “The Monster Mile” on a “Behind the Scenes” race track tour where you will ride on the track. Step back in time at the John Dickinson Plantation, boyhood home of this prominent lawyer, politician and signer of the U.S. Constitution. At the Air Mobility Command Museum learn where old airplanes go at this museum dedicated to airlift and air refueling history. Meals: B, L

Day 4: Nemours Estate and Delaware Art Museum

At Nemours Estate, experience the extraordinary 47,000-square-foot Mansion. Constructed in 1910 by notable architects Carrère and Hastings, the Mansion was completed in just 18 months and features 77 rooms of remarkable collections that include art, furniture and technology. You will be able to see how the du Ponts worked, played and entertained, and hear the fascinating stories of the staff tasked with running the house. Also, there are 200 acres of stunning French-inspired formal gardens, grounds, and woodlands. Modeled after the gardens at the Palace of Versailles - complete with fountains, mazes, towers, monuments, nature trails, and more - this breathtaking landscape will amaze and inspire you. The focus off the Delaware Art Museum is to connect people to art by offering an inclusive and essential community resource through its collections and programs. Meals: B, D

Day 5: Longwood Gardens and Winterthur Museum and Garden

Begin the day at famed Longwood Gardens, which showcases more than 10,000 species and varieties of plants spread out across more than 1,100 acres of gardens and elaborate horticultural displays. Marvel at this celebrated collection of indoor and outdoor gardens - over two-dozen in total – and enjoy stunning botanical displays, fountain shows, glistening lakes, picturesque meadows and winding woodlands. In the afternoon visit the impressive Winterthur Museum and Garden. The estate houses one of the richest collections of Americana in the nation and was the home of Henry Francis du Pont, Winterthur’s founder and a prominent antiques collector and horticulturist. Explore American history through the spaces, stories, and objects that shaped the nation and discover the enduring influence of colonial American architecture and an unparalleled collection of decorative arts. In the garden, see the highlights from a seat on the garden tram. Learn the history of Winterthur and see what’s in bloom. Tonight, your Tour Manager hosts a farewell dinner. Meals: B, D

Day 6: Travel Home

After breakfast your group transfer at 10:00 a.m. takes you to the Wilmington Airport for flights out after 12:00 p.m. Meal: B
