A Haunted Halloween Holiday
Day 1: Dungeons, Gallows and Edgar Allen Poe
Your ghostly Halloween-themed adventure begins in Fremont, Ohio. Here, embark on a ghastly tour to visit an 1840’s Dungeon, an 1890’s jail and a historic Gallows used for the last hanging in Sandusky County. Tonight, dinner is at the Strand Theater where Historical Interpreter Kent McClary provides a chilling introduction into the life, poetry and horror tales of writer Edgar Allen Poe. Meal: D
Day 2: Scarecrows, Brooms and a Monster Mash Bash
Continue through Ohio and come to the rustic Barn Restaurant for a delicious soup and salad lunch. Dessert?...of course! At Ramseyer Farms climb aboard your wagon for a fall hayride through part of the farm’s 700 acres of scenic fields and woodlands before entering a scarecrow-making team contest. Clothes, hats, hand-painted faces and straw are available to create a “fall-friend.” Be sure to check out the Country Store before departing. Ever wonder what a witch goes through to get her broom? In Holmes County you will learn the broom making process, visit the warehouse and maybe even win one during their raffle. Tonight, don your best Halloween costume for the Monster Mash Bash at the Milana Ballroom at Amish Door Village. Enjoy an evening of Halloween music, dancing and party games. There will also be delicious home-made food, tasty desserts and a Halloween costume contest. Meals: B, L, D
Day 3: Famous Endings, Behind the Screams Tour and BOO HA HA Show
In 1996 John Herzig was collecting autographs, which turned into an obsession when he received a program from boxer Joe Louis’s 1981 funeral. That turned into a collection of over 2,500 artifacts called Famous Endings. You will also see one the largest collections of funeral memorabilia ranging from hearses and caskets to antique ambulances at the Smith Ambulance and Funeral Museum. Later, take a “Behind the Screams Tour” at the Millersburg Victorian Mansion and hear stories of this gorgeous Queen Anne-style home. Tonight, enjoy an Amish-made fall buffet at the Amish Country Theater. Then, settle in for the BOO HA HA Show featuring a Halloween-themed variety show of singing, comedy acts and lots of Halloween magic! Meals: B, D
Day 4: Hershberger Farm Market Halloween Scavenger Hunt
After breakfast today, you will come to the Hershberger Farm Market and Bakery, home to fresh-baked goods, a hands-on animal petting area, buggy rides and a farm store. Explore the market and receive a small bag of fresh popped kettle corn to take with you. At the Walnut Creek FLEA 1900 engage in a Halloween Scavenger Hunt among the numerous merchants and maybe even win a prize. Later, continue to Fort Wayne. Meals: B, D
Day 5: Shipshewana Daniel O’Donnell at the Blue Gate Theatre
Travel to Shipshewana today, the heart of Indiana’s Amish community. Hear the story of the Amish-Mennonite way of life at the Menno Hof Interpretive Center and enjoy a made-from-scratch, home-style cooking lunch at the Blue Gate Restaurant. Then, step into the Blue Gate Theatre where an afternoon with Ireland’s favorite son Daniel O’Donnell who brings his popular mix of country and easy listening music. Meals: B, L
